Facilities                                                                             Cymraeg

We are looking to develop our infrastructure so that we can have groups in for longer residentials. We have looked at a number of ways of doing this in order to minimise our carbon footprint and have opted to reuse the existing Beudy (barn) as a shower and storage area and the old toilet block as the cooking/food storage area.  The new toilet block will be built from scratch from local sourced materials.

The Shower Block

Sited in the old Beudy there will be two showers both with disabled access.  Water for the showers will be sourced from the local river and sand and ceramic filtered ensuring it meets Environmental Health standards.  This natural method of filtration has a very low carbon footprint.  The water will be heated by an efficient log burner that will need to be loaded by the people on the residentials.  Electricity in the block will be provided by a mixture of hydro, solar panels and pedal power.

The Kitchen

This used to be the old toilet block back when there was a campsite here.  We will be knocking down any of the breeze block and non natural stone that is presently part of the building but we will not be wasting it.  Instead, it will become part of the "brown roof" where native wild flowers and grasses will grow on it making it blend into its surroundings. The electricity, water and heat will be provided using the same methods as the shower block.

The food preparation area will be inside the building but the cooking area is outside and we're using the most fuel efficient and natural cooking methods there are.  There will be an earth oven, a rocket stove, a barbeque and a wonder box cooker; simple and low emissions.

The Toilets

We will be building this from scratch from wood sourced in the forests in our area.  There will be 2 disabled access composting toilets that turn our waste into harmless fertiliser and 1 straw bale urinal which again turns waste into something very useful.  The roof will be similar to the brown roof on the kitchen the difference being that this one is green; a similar concept only this time earth is used instead of hardcore.
